God: The Fossil Record

In 2009, to mark the bicentenary of Charles Darwin’s birth, Huxter invited nine international artists to produce new work inspired by Darwin and his theories. The resulting exhibition, God: The Fossil Record, was shown at the Stadtmuseum Sankt Pölten, Austria. Huxter’s contribution to this exhibition was a series of paintings about the experimental breeding of domestic animals undertaken by Darwin’s contemporary, Sir John Sebright, and the imagined grotesque results of his work are painted in styles inspired by nineteenth century engravings, representing various human vices.
