the nightingale suite

I started work on what became The Nightingale Suite – an ongoing series of drawings – in 1997. Singing nightingales, moonlight, and the figure of a melancholy and sleepless poet are recurring themes. The drawings contain a sense of the intimate, almost tangible, atmosphere evoked by John Keats in ‘Ode to a Nightingale’, a poem I have admired since my student days. Three new works inspired by visits to Keats House in 2025 were specially created for this exhibition.
